Translation of the Tamil poster:

“Open Challenge !!

Will the Wahhabis produce even a single direct piece of evidence stating that Meelad and Mawlid are "Haram" (Forbidden)???

Isn't what is Haram (Forbidden) and Halal (Permissible) clear in religion?!!

The Scholarly Standard of Ahlul Hadith and the Ignorance of Ahlul Bid'ah and Taqlid

All praise is for Allah, The most High. Salawat and Salaam be upon our beloved prophet. May Allah pleased with sahabah.

This article is mainly to educate salafi brothers and sisters who follow the path of ahlul hadees wal athar and for the awareness of all muslims. May Allah grant us the strength.

The above poster calls to come with evidence hastily. We say to these sectarians, do not play with religion of Allah and quarrel among yourselves. As Ahlus Sunnah, we believe that our religion has been perfected and completed, sent down as the blessing to us by Allah, the most high.

And hastiness is from shaytan as said in the hadees,

On the authority of Sahl ibn Sa'd As-Sa'idi (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ), the Messenger of Allah (صَلَّى ٱللَّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) said:

"Deliberation (calmness and patience) is from Allah, and haste (recklessness) is from Shaytan."

Jami' at-Tirmidhi (Hadith #2012)

On the authority of 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ), the Prophet (صَلَّى ٱللَّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) said:

"No one who has an atom's weight of arrogance in his heart will enter Paradise."

A man asked, "What if a person likes his clothing to look good and his shoes to look good?"

The Prophet (صَلَّى ٱللَّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) replied:

"Indeed, Allah is Beautiful and He loves beauty. Arrogance is rejecting the truth and looking down upon people."

Sahih Muslim (Hadith 91)

Do not be boastful and arrogant upon falsehood. The Truth, the path of Sunnah is clear as daylight. One of the signs of last hour is that people won’t be capable of identifying the truth and falsehood.

Also, we remind of the advise of Imam Ahmed ibn hanbal, who said,

The fundamental principles of the Sunnah with us are: Holding fast to what the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) were upon,

And also he said,

And the abandonment of innovations (al-Bid'ah), for every innovation is misguidance; and leaving off disputes in the religion, and leaving off sitting with the people of desires.

Will this Jamiat ulama, Hanafi, maturidi, ashari and berelivis respect and follow Imam Ahmed’s advise?!

Now, let us enter into the point of discussion. The question of the madhabi, Sufis, challenging to bring atleast one evidence that outrightly says it is haram to celebrate milaadun-nabi towards ‘wahabis’ is totally invalid, wrong, ignorant one. Mentioning ‘wahabis’ shows their hatred towards Imam Muhammed bin Abdullah wahab (May Allah have mercy on him). May Allah increase reward for the Imam and make these adamant people bankrupt. We will not go into this ‘wahabi myth’ in this article. All we ask to Allah is,

"Our Lord, do not let our hearts swerve [deviate] after You have guided us, and grant us mercy from Yourself. Indeed, You are the Bestower."

We would like our brothers and sisters to think why the so-called challenge question of the madhabis is totally ignorant and wrong. We say that the question itself shows their poor, inefficient knowledge of Islamic foundational principles.

Asking evidence for the prohibition on the celebration of ‘birth-day of prophet’ as they claim is far from the Islamic fiqh principle on ibadah(worship). We will see it in elaboration inshaa Allah.

Allah says,

Or have they partners with Allâh (false gods) who have instituted for them a religion which Allâh has not ordained?.... (42:21)

"Whoever innovates something in this matter of ours [i.e., Islam] that is not a part of it, will have it rejected.") Sahih al-Bukhari

Narrated 'Aisha (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا): Allah's Messenger (صَلَّى ٱللَّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) said:

"Whoever performs an action which is not in accordance with our, it will be rejected."

Sahih Muslim

Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) says,

And has subjected to you all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth; it is all as a favour and kindness from Him. Verily, in it are signs for a people who think deeply. (45:13)

Based above Evidences and many other, Scholars of Ahlus Sunnah, Ahlul hadees coined a foundational principle for deriving rulings which is,

The initial condition (al-Asl) concerning worship is prohibition; nothing is permitted except that which Allaah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) and His Messenger (صَلَّى ٱللَّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) legislated. The initial condition concerning transactions and traditions is permissibility, except that which Allaah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) and His Messenger (صَلَّى ٱللَّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) made forbidden.

(Refer to القواعد والأصول الجامعة والفروق والتقاسيم البديعة النافعة Al-Qawaa'id wal-Usool al-Jaami'ah wal-Furooq wat-Taqaaseem al-Badee'ah an-Naafi'ah. (The Basic Rulings and Principles of Fiqh –The Beneficial, Eloquent Classifications and Differentiations) of Imam as Saadi (May Allah have mercy on him).)

All newly invented worships are by default prohibited. Only the acts that are prescribed in the Qur'an and Sunnah must be performed and adhered to.

Hope our brothers and sisters are able to attentively grasp the point we are trying to realise here. It is very important to seek beneficial, foundational knowledge of deen so that we can protect ourselves and our families from misguidance, deviated paths.

The initial condition (al-Asl) concerning worship is prohibition;

nothing is permitted except that which Allaah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) and His Messenger (صَلَّى ٱللَّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) legislated.

Worship includes, prayer, fasting, zakat, Ramadan, Eid and all related actions. These actions have to be done, acted upon based on the prescribed, legislated way of our prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), as in the Quran and Sunnah.

All Acts of worship are fundamentally prohibited, invalid, devoid of acceptance or reward except what is commanded by our prophet.

And

The initial condition concerning transactions and traditions is permissibility, except that which Allaah and His Messenger made forbidden.

All worldly matters are permissible except that which are prohibited in the Quran and Sunnah.

Prophet (صَلَّى ٱللَّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) said;

…..and whatever He was silent about is among that which He has pardoned [made permissible]."

Sunnan Tirmidhi/Ibn majah)

Let us properly understand Islamic principle,

All Acts of worship are fundamentally prohibited, invalid, devoid of acceptance or reward except what is commanded/prescribed in the Quran and Sunnah.

This is realised and understood from the saying of our prophet (ﷺ),

"Whoever innovates something in this matter of ours [i.e., Islam] that is not a part of it, will have it rejected.")

Any new act of worship which was not commanded by our prophet and not practiced by the sahabah is totally rejected.

All newly introduced acts of prayer, fasting, dhikr, celebrations (Eid) are all prohibited except that which Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) and His Messenger (صَلَّى ٱللَّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) made as Shariah in Qur'an and Sunnah

Salaf of this Ummah, righteous, leading Scholars of this Ummah, behind whose names these Sufis, madhabis hide, lie upon and deceive the muslims, have explained this principle in the many of their books and explanations. For example,

Imam Malik ibn Anas (d. 179 AH)

"Whoever introduces an innovation into Islam, viewing it as good, has claimed that Muhammad ﷺ betrayed the message; because

Allah says: 'This day I have perfected for you your religion'

[Al-Ma'idah: 3].

Thus, whatever was not part of the religion on that day cannot be part of the religion today."

Recorded by Al-Shatibi in Al-I'tisam and Ibn Hazm in Al-Ihkam.

Imam ash-Shafi'i (d. 204 AH)

"Whoever acts upon personal preference [to approve an unlegislated act of worship] has enacted a law."

(Cited widely across Shafi'i Usul treatises and in Al-Umm).

Imam Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani (d. 852 AH)

"The default principle in worship is restriction (stopping at textual authority)."

"And affirmation/approval in matters of worship is only derived from divine text (Tawqeef)."

Fath al-Bari Sharh Sahih al-Bukhari

Another reference is the Masjid Kufa incident, Verdict of Abdullah ibn Masood (May Allah be pleased with him), the one of the leaders of the scholars of this Ummah,

Narrated by 'Amr ibn Yahya, from his father, from his grandfather ('Amr ibn Salamah):

We used to sit at the door of 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ) before the morning prayer (Fajr). When he came out, we would walk with him to the mosque. Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ) came to us and asked, "Has Abu 'Abdir-Rahman come out to you yet?" We said, "No." So he sat with us until Ibn Mas'ud emerged. When he came out, we all stood up to meet him, and Abu Musa (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ) said to him:

"O Abu 'Abdir-Rahman! Just now in the mosque I witnessed an affair that I disapproved of, though—and praise be to Allah—I saw nothing but good intention."

Ibn Mas'ud (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ) asked, "What was it?"

Abu Musa (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ) replied, "If you live long enough, you will see it. I saw groups of people sitting in circles in the mosque awaiting the prayer. In every circle there was a leader, and they held pebbles in their hands. The leader would say, 'Say Allahu Akbar a hundred times,' so they would say it a hundred times. Then he would say, 'Say La ilaha illallah a hundred times,' so they would say it a hundred times. Then he would say, 'Say Subhanallah a hundred times,' so they would say it a hundred times."

Ibn Mas'ud (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ) asked, "So what did you say to them?"

Abu Musa (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ) replied, "I said nothing to them, waiting for your view or your instruction."

Ibn Mas'ud (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ) said, "Why did you not command them to count their bad deeds instead, guaranteeing them that none of their good deeds would be lost?"

Then he walked on, and we walked with him until he reached one of those circles. He stood over them and said, "What is this that I see you doing?"

They replied, "O Abu 'Abdir-Rahman! These are pebbles with which we count the Takbeer, Tahleel, and Tasbeeh."

He said: "Count your bad deeds instead, for I guarantee that none of your good deeds will be lost! Woe to you, O Nation of Muhammad! How swift is your destruction! Here are the Companions of your Prophet (ﷺ) still abundant among you, his garments are not yet worn out, and his vessels are not yet broken. By Him in Whose Hand is my soul! Either you are upon a religion more guided than the religion of Muhammad, or you are opening a doorway to misguidance (bid'ah)!"

They exclaimed, "By Allah, O Abu 'Abdir-Rahman, we intended nothing but good!"

He replied: "How many intend good, yet never attain it! Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ related to us that a people would recite the Qur'an, but it would not pass beyond their throats. By Allah, I do not know, but perhaps most of them are from among you!" Then he turned away from them.

'Amr ibn Salamah added: "We saw the majority of the people from those very circles fighting against us on the Day of Nahrawan alongside the Khawarij."

Sunan al-Dārimī

Abdullah ibn masood (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ) never accepted group dhikr to be an act of worship. He did not ask them to bring proofs. He did not cite any proofs specifying exactly their newly invented act of worship as he was from the people of knowledge, he was well aware of the ruling of ibadah. Ibadah can be done only according to the way shown by our prophet. Prophet did not presecribe this way of dhikr or any other way. So, the action was by default rejected without any further delay. Abdullah ibn Masood (May Allah be pleased with him) warned those innovators of destruction, rejecting their act of worship.

Similarly, dear people of truth, may Allah preserve you all, celebration is only two as prescribed in the authentic sunnah. Eid ul fitr and Eid ul Adha.

Newly invented practices which were not acted by the companions of prophet will not be accepted, it is to be rejected as it leads to destruction as stated by Imam Abdullah ibn Masood

Another great scholar of Ahlul hadees wal Athar, Imām Badiʿ ud din Shāh ar-Rāshidī Sindhī [1416H]

Challenged these ignorant madhabis to cite one hadees prescribing meelad-un-nabi. No one in this world had the courage to take up his challenge. Cowardly people hiding behind shrines and tombs call people towards tomb of Nizam ud Dīn Ajmeri.”…..

Shaykh also asked,

“We need to see if it is permissible to celebrate this day in Islām. These people celebrate everyone’s birthday. I say, go and ask these Moulvis if the birthday of a single Prophet from Ādam Alayhis Salām to Muhammad the Messenger of Allāh Sallalahu Alayhi Wasallam was celebrated, ask them is this mentioned in the Qurān, of course not.”

Ādam Alayhis Salām, who is the father of everyone was created by Allāh himself with his two hands, so it is obvious that he also has a birthday. The 12 months have always existed,

Verily, the number of months with Allâh is twelve months (in a year), so was it ordained by Allâh on the Day when He created the heavens and the earth;….(Surah Tawbah:36)

If Milād was something permissible in Islām the Messenger of Allāh Sallalahu Alayhi Wasallam would have celebrated it himself. He lived for another 23 years after Prophethood of which 13 years were in Makkah, did he once celebrate his own Milād?

Then he lived in Madīnah for another 10 years; did he celebrate his Milād once? Then it was the khilāfah of Abū Bakr RadiAllāhu Anhu and Umar RadiAllāhu Anhu which lasted for 2 and 10 years respectively; did they celebrate the Milād of the Messenger of Allāh Sallalahu Alayhi Wasallam. Then it was the khilāfah of Uthmān RadiAllāhu Anhu and Ali RadiAllāhu Anhu who was a close relative; did they celebrate his Milād?

Say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم to mankind): "If you (really) love Allâh then follow me (i.e. accept Islâmic Monotheism, follow the Qur’ân and the Sunnah), Allâh will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful."(3:31)

DO NOT CLAIM FALSE LOVE FOR ALLAH AND HIS PROPHET.

FOLLOWING HIS WAY AND HIS COMPANIONS IS TRUE LOVE FOR PROPHET.

One can see in the verse from the Quran where Allah has connected love (muhabbah) to ‘following of Rasoolullah salallhu alaihi wa sallam’. May Allah bless us with true love, sincerity and firmness upon sunnah.

Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman(d.36H)

He (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Do not perform any act of worship that was not practiced by the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, for the earlier generation did not leave any room for the latter to add anything."

(Refer to Ibn Battah in Al-Ibaanah and Ibn Waddooh in Al-Bid'ah).

Therefore, we, Ahlus sunnah wal Jama’ah will not perform any act of worship which was not performed by the messenger of Allah and his companions as that will bring us destruction, punishment as warned by Imam Abdullah ibn Masood and Abdullah Ibn Umar (May Allah be pleased with them both.)

We submit to the religion conveyed by our prophet and reject all new-invented matters according to sunnah.

Let us people of innovation, opinions and desires scream however they want. All their efforts will have no reward and it will rejected in this world and in the hereafter. They are not sincere to our prophet nor sincere to the Imams of this Ummah. They are simply upon lie and falsehood.

Shaykh Badiʿ ud din Shāh ar-Rāshidī Sindhī used to say that there are only two groups in this world, one is the People of hadees(narrations) and the other is the people of ra’yy (opinions).

Dear muslims, we have to decide with whom we are going to traverse for Islamic knowledge. Is it Ahlul hadees wal athar or the Ahlul bidah wa ra’yy(Sufis, hanafis, maturidism etc)

Allah says,

(This is) the truth from your Lord, so be not of those who doubt.(3:60)

Let us be with people of truth, the followers of hadees, true lovers of the prophet and his companions, those who followed them sincerely from the leading of Imams of this ummah.

Barakallahu feekum, jazakhallahu kahyran
