Methodology to Identify Salafis in the Tamil World

ترجمة المحاضرة التي ألقاها الشيخ يحيى سلمي -حفظه الله- باللغة التاميلية

الحمد لله رب العالمين والصلاة والسلام على من لا نبي بعده أما بعد

By the grace of Allah, we see the Salafi Dawah growing in the Tamil world. However, at the same time, as it grows across all times and ages, it will not be free from opposition and obstacles. Based on the fact that oppositional actions and plans are necessary for Shaytan, plots and schemes against the truth will continue.

Brothers! A most important thing regarding the Salafi Dawah that I wish to convey to the Tamil world is that the Salafi Dawah is not the property of any single individual. No single individual is its owner or sole representative. Whatever scholar it may be, from the time of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) until whenever, this does not belong to any single individual.

The Salafi Dawah is the methodology of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and the Sahabah (Companions):

ما كان عليه النبي وأصحابه

"That which the Prophet and his Companions were upon."

The methodology upon which the Prophet and the Sahabah were—it belongs to all scholars who have studied sound knowledge (from its proper carriers).

If someone demonstrates how the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and the Sahabah lived, along with its evidences, we welcome that Dawah. Whether he knows it as Salafi Dawah or not, we must cooperate with it, provided it is established upon the methodology of the Prophet (ﷺ) and the path in which the Sahabah implemented it.

Apart from that, doing Dawah as individual leaders, movements, or groups according to what suits them becomes the Dawah of an individual:

Ikhwanul Muslimin is tied to an individual named Hassan al-Banna.

Jamaat-e-Islami is tied to an individual named Mawdudi.

Tablighi Jamaat is tied to an individual named Ilyas Kandhlawi.

Likewise, every group is linked to an individual.

However, the Salafi Dawah is completely established only under the methodology of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and the Sahabah. As such, there is no restriction for any scholar at any time to convey that Salafi methodology.

The criterion is:

If he is learned in knowledge, proves evidences through the Quran and Sunnah, and presents the path of the Prophet and the Sahabah in the methodology of understanding the Quran and Sunnah, the Salafis will accept him. Those who follow the Salafi Dawah will take it and act upon it. They do not have a stubborn nature; they will not hold the mindset that "we will only accept if a specific person or jamat says it."

However, if those who perform Dawah meet their criteria by being learned, knowledgeable, presenting that knowledge accurately, deriving Hadiths from books with their chains of narration (Isnad), and explaining the Quran through its commentary (Tafsir) via through the explanation of the Prophet and the Sahabah, then the religious rulings and explanations he states become mandatory for all Salafi people to follow.

That being so, all the scholars who came in Islamic history become necessary for us to gain knowledge from. All the scholars in Islamic history who came to propagate the Quran and Sunnah are necessary for people who follow the path of the Salaf us-Salih (Pious Predecessors).

Furthermore, anyone in history who came to explain the Quran and Sunnah deviating from the path of the Prophet and the Sahabah will not be needed by the Salafi people. Rather, they will set them aside. Even if they speak with knowledge, they will set those callers aside as harmful people, because they do not propagate the Quran and Sunnah through the methodology understood by the Messenger of Allah and the Sahabah. They do not state religious rulings or creed (Aqeedah) in that methodology.

Furthermore, such callers speak for personal desire, speak to please the people, change their speech according to time and circumstance, and thereby gather crowds to build a name. The Dawah of such people will not be the religion revealed by Allah. It will not be in the Quran or in the Sunnah, nor will it be worthy of reward before Allah.

Even under such conditions, people who love the Salafi Dawah do not do Dawah for fame or public approval. They do not change for an individual or according to circumstances. Rather, they are followers of Allah and His Messenger (ﷺ).

Whoever it may be, if he is among the Scholars of the Sunnah (Ulama us-Sunnah) and truthfully establishes proof through the Quran and Sunnah, they will welcome and accept his knowledge. They will follow it and desire to joyfully practice that religion.

On the contrary, if the person doing Dawah is not learned, lacks qualification of having studied, lacks the recommendation (Tazkiyah) of scholars, lacks proof of understanding classical books upon reading them, and lacks the qualification to analyse chains of narration (Isnad) to understand authentic (Sahih) and weak (Da'if) narrations—no matter how eloquent a speaker he may be—all of them will be rejected by true Salafis.

These are truths that the world needs to know. Salafis who follow the Quran and Sunnah are not like people of other sects who accept anyone as soon as he returns after studying at a center (Markaz) or an organization. Salafis, who are the people of Hadith (Ahlul Hadith) who have grown on earth across all times and eras, are seekers of Allah's religion. They are here to act upon what Allah has said and to follow the religion of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).

Therefore, if it becomes known to them that a man is qualified to show the Quran and Sunnah upon the path of the Messenger of Allah, possesses knowledge, carries it with evidence, and abides by these fundamentals, drawing close to him and taking knowledge from him will not be hindered for Salafi people.

At the same time, no matter how great a speaker a person is, or how many people he has charmed through it, if there is no evidence from religion in the knowledge he presents, or if there is no recommendation from scholars, spending time and cooperating with him is not needed for Salafis.

Brothers! The Tamil world must know who the Salafis are. Salafi Dawah is not formed merely by delivering a sermon in some mosque, joining some movement, or claiming to be a student of some Sheikh by attending gatherings. Salafis are those who seek to worship Allah and strive to follow the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). They sit in the gatherings of scholars and attach themselves to the place of knowledge; they become devoted to true knowledge.

Understanding this, let all groups who play with knowledge at all times realize: even if you play with knowledge and charm people, or divide Salafi groups, or push people away from knowledge, time and circumstances will answer regarding you.

I remind here of the Arabic poem that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) recited addressing the Sahabah:

سَتُبْدِي لَكَ الأَيَّامُ مَا كُنْتَ جَاهِلاً

وَيَأْتِيكَ بِالأَخْبَارِ مَنْ لَمْ تُزَوِّدِ

"The days will reveal to you what you were ignorant of,

And one whom you did not supply with provisions will bring you news."

Today, anyone can do whatever they want; they can charm people in whatever way. No matter how much struggle is made, time will answer all of these; circumstances will answer this.

How many oppositions, how many confusions, how many problems are there in striving to follow the straight path? Where will the answer to all those problems be found? Time and circumstances will show its answer—it will not be obtained immediately.

How many confusions? How many illusions? How many controversies? How many slanders? How many fabrications? What is all of this for? To crush, isolate, and obscure the truth, and to prevent people from peacefully following the truth. That is why they do all of this.

However, for whoever remains patient, stands upon the path with evidence, and stays disciplined with the Quran and Sunnah, time and circumstances will demonstrate the answer to them.

Brothers! We must remain patient. Testing is something Allah Ta'ala has placed for everyone in all times. Were there no trials for Ibrahim (peace be upon him)? Were there no trials for the Prophet (ﷺ)? Were there no trials for the Sahabah? When it was like that for them, none of us can escape trials.

Understanding all of this, I pray that Allah Ta'ala makes us blessed to remain in the patience that those Prophets and Sahabah maintained, and to attain the reward earned through it.

Publisher’s note:

Dear Muslims

Do not fall into the traps of Hizbiyyah

Do not fall into the traps of deceptive fake salafis – ikhani sururis (as they are more dangerous as advised by shaykh Muhammad Ramzan and shaykh Muhammad bin hadi)

For,

They did not take knowledge from its proper place(from the scholars of Ahlus Sunnah)

They did not implement Aqidah/manhaj of the salaf in their life and dawah

They did not invite or welcome the true scholars of salafiyyah and introduce to people. rather, opposed, insulted and fabricated about our scholars.

They did not cooperate with salafi dawah but cooperated with hizbis, political factions, etc

They did not introduce salafi books due to their insecurity.

They did not want to name us even to criticise and lie upon as people will come to know about us(who work & cooperate with salafi scholars).

Beware of the deception of,

Mufti Omer sheriff(darul huda), JAQH du’aats, Abdul Basith, Mujahid ibn razeen, Mubarak Madani and others who cooperate with them.

We urge people to go to the gatherings of,

Shaykh Yahya silmy as saylani(Who taught us about salafi path), Shaykh Muhammad bin Ramzan, Shaykh Muhammad bin hadi, Shaykh Abdur Razzaq Al Badr, Shaykh Khalid al Misri, Shaykh Raslan Al Misri, Shaykh Waseeullah Abbas, Shaykh Sulaiman Ar-Ruhaylee, Shaykh Saleh as Suhaymee, Shaykh Saleh Al Usaymi, Shaykh Ali bin Zayd and many other scholars who are firmly grounded upon knowledge of sunnah, salafiyyah.

We have to be very cautious as we are living in the midst of kufr, shirk, bidah and hizbiyyah. May Allah protect us from misguidance and make firm upon sunnah and die upon it.

O seekers of truth!

To know the difference between positions of the true scholars of salafiyyah and deceptive fabricators (in the name of Tauheed/salaf), we welcome and invite all to our Makthabah Alqamah Ibn Waqqas, Uthamapalayam. We shall have a productive discussion and also schedule appointments with salafi teachers and scholars.

Jazakhallahu khayran.
